Orvieto:
the city
In the centre of Italy,
built on the top of a tufa cliff at 350m above sea
level, Orvieto is both majestic and fascinating. Less
than a kilometre long and 800 metres wide, it has
a history that dates back from the Etruscans.
Traces of the past are evident in the
many architectural styles found in the city, from
the Etruscan temples to medieval palaces, from the
imposing cathedral to the tall Moro clock tower.
Recent renovations have recuperated important buildings
for use as congress halls and to hold important events:
The Captains Palace, "Luigi Macinelli" theatre,
Palace of Sette, Saint John’s cloister
